Martin Demichelis praises Christopher Nkunku after stunning RB Leipzig hat-trick
Christopher Nkunku delivered a standout performance for RB Leipzig, scoring three goals in their emphatic 6-0 Bundesliga victory over Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday.
The 28-year-old Frenchman completed his hat-trick before half-time, finding the net in the fifth, 41st and 44th minutes after Ezechiel Banzuzi had opened the scoring in the first minute. Antonio Nusa added a fifth goal after the break before Tidiam Gomis completed the rout late on.
Leipzig coach Martin Demichelis was delighted with Nkunku’s display, pointing to the forward’s improvement in fitness and sharpness following the international break.
“I am very happy for Christo. I have often said that he still needs time and matches,” Demichelis said.
The coach explained that Nkunku had worked particularly hard during the international break to improve his physical condition.
“He trained very well during this FIFA break. He improved his physical and athletic conditioning,” he added.
Demichelis also highlighted the tactical role that allowed the Frenchman to thrive. Operating centrally behind the main striker, Nkunku found space to influence the game and repeatedly trouble Frankfurt’s defence.
“He played more behind the number nine today right in the center, where he is damn dangerous for any opponent,” the coach explained.
He also praised Nkunku’s technical ability and composure in front of goal, describing his quality when turning with the ball as exceptional.
The hat-trick marked Nkunku’s 49th, 50th and 51st Bundesliga goals, while also becoming the first hat-trick by a Leipzig player in Bundesliga history. His performance provided a significant boost for Demichelis ahead of the club’s Champions League meeting with PSV Eindhoven.
