After weeks on the sidelines, Ousmane Dembele is finally close to making his much-awaited return for Paris Saint-Germain.

The French winger, who has been out with a hamstring injury since September, could be fit in time to face Strasbourg this Friday, provided everything goes smoothly with his recovery.

The injury, which Dembele suffered while representing France in a World Cup qualifying victory over Ukraine, forced him off the pitch in the 81st minute, shortly after he had replaced PSG teammate Desire Doue. His absence has been felt significantly, Dembele has missed six games for the reigning European champions, including a headline-grabbing showdown with his former club Barcelona.

There’s been plenty of intrigue behind the scenes too. PSG publicly criticized the French Football Federation about player care following the injuries to both Dembele and Doué, adding a layer of tension to his recovery process.

But now, fans and club doctors have reason to be optimistic. Dembele’s rehab has gone to plan, closely following the six-week schedule initially estimated by PSG’s medical staff. If there are no late setbacks, the winger should bolster PSG’s attack soon, just when they need him the most
