Jose Gomes files second FIFA case as Zamalek’s financial troubles end friendly relations

The relationship between Portuguese coach Jose Gomes and Zamalek SC has taken a dramatic turn as Gomes, now the manager of Al Fateh in Saudi Arabia, filed a second official complaint with FIFA to claim approximately $120,000 in unpaid wages for himself and his staff.

“I have indeed filed a formal complaint against Zamalek with FIFA due to the club’s failure to pay my outstanding dues,” Gomes explained, expressing disappointment after several attempts for an amicable settlement fell through.

Gomes initially left Zamalek in late 2024 under what appeared to be friendly terms, with both sides stating that the conditions were simply “not right for work—nothing personal.” However, financial troubles persisted, prompting Gomes’s first complaint in May 2025, and now this fresh demand as the club failed to honor previous agreements.

Gomes’s short tenure, which included winning the CAF Confederation Cup and African Super Cup, was marred by instability, as echoed by his agent, who noted issues with player signings and salary delays. Zamalek’s chronic financial woes have made the club vulnerable to more international complaints and possible transfer bans, highlighting an ongoing crisis that keeps turning former alliances into legal disputes.
