2026 World Cup Qualifiers: Cape Verde sets dates for Libya and Eswatini

Cape Verde has officially confirmed its October fixtures in the 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign, with decisive encounters lined up against Libya and Eswatini.

The Cape Verde Football Federation (FCF) announced on Thursday, 25 September 2025, that the Blue Sharks will first travel to Tripoli for a Group Stage clash before returning home to Praia for their final qualifier.

The team, unbeaten so far, sits top of their group with 19 points and will be aiming to extend their lead over closest challengers Cameroon, who are on 15 points.

The opening fixture of the international break will see Cape Verde face Libya in Tripoli on Wednesday, 8 October 2025.

Kick-off at the Tripoli International Stadium is scheduled for 13:00 GMT.

The encounter promises to be a stern test, with Libya eager to upset the group leaders on their own soil.

Cape Verde will then conclude their qualifying campaign with a home tie against Eswatini on Monday, 13 October 2025.

The National Stadium in Praia will host the decisive fixture, with kick-off set for 16:00 GMT.

For the Blue Sharks, it is an opportunity to finish strongly in front of their supporters and secure their grip on first place.

The stakes could not be higher. With Cameroon still within reach, Cape Verde know that maintaining their unbeaten record is key to ensuring qualification.

Victory in Libya would put them within touching distance of progression, while a win at home to Eswatini would confirm their dominance in the group.

The FCF stressed the importance of the fixtures in its announcement, noting that organisation and preparation remain central to the Blue Sharks’ push for World Cup qualification.

The squad is expected to gather in Praia ahead of departure for Tripoli, before returning for the closing match in front of home fans.

Cape Verde’s rise in African football has been built on discipline, resilience, and the ability to deliver results away from home.

As the qualifiers enter their final stretch, the nation’s hopes rest on the players’ ability to sustain their impressive run and secure a place on football’s biggest stage.

With everything still to play for, October promises to be a defining month for the Blue Sharks as they aim to write another proud chapter in Cape Verdean football history.
