Senegal: ASC Jaraaf secure goalkeeper Boubacar Fall ahead of CAF Confederation Cup
Senegalese side ASC Jaraaf have completed the signing of goalkeeper Boubacar Fall from French club AS Saint-Étienne as they prepare for their CAF Confederation Cup campaign.
The 24-year-old, once considered one of Senegal’s most promising young shot-stoppers, joins the Dakar-based outfit just days before their preliminary round clash against Cameroon’s Colombe Football Club.
The deal was confirmed by Jaraaf on Saturday, giving the club a timely boost ahead of their continental opener.
Fall, who began his career at Guédiawaye FC, made the move to Europe in early 2021 when he signed with Saint-Étienne.
However, his time in France proved challenging, with the goalkeeper limited to a single senior appearance during his three and a half years with Les Verts.
Despite his lack of opportunities at club level, Fall’s potential has long been recognised; he was part of Senegal’s U20 national team setup and has been tipped for greater things in his career.
For Jaraaf, the addition of Fall is seen as a significant reinforcement in a position of responsibility.
With continental competition demanding depth and experience, his exposure to European football—even with limited playing time—could prove invaluable.
The Dakar giants will hope his presence provides stability between the posts as they look to make an impact on the African stage.
The timing of the transfer is particularly crucial, as Jaraaf host Colombe FC this Sunday in the first preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup.
With the club eager to advance, Fall could be thrown straight into action, depending on his fitness and integration with the squad.
Jaraaf’s management have been active in the transfer market in recent weeks, aiming to build a team capable of balancing domestic responsibilities with continental ambitions.
The arrival of a goalkeeper with international youth pedigree signals their intent to compete at the highest level.
Fall’s return to Senegalese football also carries a symbolic significance.
Having left the local league with hopes of breaking into European football, his homecoming offers a chance to revive his career and re-establish himself as a leading goalkeeper in African competition.
As Jaraaf gear up for their Confederation Cup debut, all eyes will be on whether their new recruit can quickly adapt and deliver the performances needed to carry them through the early rounds.
For Fall, this move could represent not only a fresh start but also an opportunity to remind both Senegalese fans and national selectors of his potential.
