Union Saint-Gilloise midfielder Anouar Ait El-Hadj has described his goal against PSV Eindhoven as the proudest moment of his career.

The Belgian, who is of Moroccan descent, struck a stunning solo effort in the 39th minute to help Union seal a 3-1 victory in their Champions League clash on Tuesday night.

Picking up the ball in midfield, the 22-year-old weaved past several PSV defenders before slotting a composed finish into the bottom corner to double his side’s lead.

“It’s the greatest moment of my career,” Ait El-Hadj said after the match. “This is the Champions League, the biggest competition in the world. I stayed calm and just went for it. I’m very proud.”

The goal carried added significance for the former Anderlecht academy graduate, who also had spells at Genk before joining Union. Having endured limited playing time last season, Ait El-Hadj reflected on his journey.

“I thought about all the tough times,” he noted. “At Anderlecht, at Genk, and even here when I was out of the team. But hard work pays off. You just have to be patient and keep going.”

Union had opened the scoring through a Promise David penalty after Ricardo Pepi fouled Christian Burgess. Kevin Mac Allister later added a third from close range, before Ruben van Bommel pulled one back late on for PSV.
