DR Congo coach Sebastien Desabre satisfied with Aroan Wan-Bissaka’s debut
Head coach of the Democratic Republic of Congo Sebastien Desabre has expressed satisfaction with Aaron Wan Bissaka’s performance on his debut.
The former Manchester United star made his first appearance for the Leopards in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, helping the side to secure an emphatic 4-1 victory over South Sudan.
Bissaka was born in England and represented the country at the junior levels but reportedly turned down multiple attempts from the Congolese Federation to play for the African country until this month.
Wan-Bissaka accepted the invitation to play in DR Congo’s 2026 World Cup qualifiers against South Sudan and Senegal. In his first game for the Leopards, Wan-Bissaka played 77 minutes.
Real Betis striker Cedric Bakambu bagged a brace, with Newcastle United new recruit Yoane Wissa also getting on the scoresheet.
“He had a good game but couldn’t finish the total minutes of the match, because this is Africa his home where pitches are not as soft as in Europe.”
“This was artificial turf not London stadium unfortunately. He needs to learn quickly about playing here. This is his continent and his home. One more thing!! he needs to rehearse, is the National Anthem. After 3 months he needs to try and sing. Fair performance from him. We are happy” he said.
Having made his debut, the defender, who currently plies his trade for West Ham United is expected to feature for DR Congo in the upcoming crunch clash against Senegal, scheduled for September 9, 2025.
