Egypt national team rejects rumors over Ahmed Mostafa Zizo and Hossam Hassan
The Egyptian national team has moved quickly to put to rest talk surrounding Ahmed Mostafa Zizo and his interaction with coach Hossam Hassan during their 2026 World Cup qualifier against Ethiopia.
Zizo, who started the match at Cairo Stadium, was replaced by Ibrahim Adel in the 63rd minute. Cameras captured the winger looking downcast as he left the pitch, and some images appeared to suggest he had refused a handshake with Hassan. The moment sparked chatter across social media, raising questions about tension within the squad.
However, another clip soon circulated showing Zizo shaking hands with his coach and later smiling on the bench. A source inside the team confirmed there was no rift.
The source explained that Hassan spoke to Zizo calmly after the change, and both men shared laughs after the match. “Hossam Hassan shook hands with Zizo and spoke to him normally. The player was seen laughing on the bench and shook hands with his coach after the match. There is no need to spread any rumors.”
Egypt remain focused on their campaign to secure a World Cup spot.
