Mohamed Salah and Omar Marmoush set to power Pharaohs past Ethiopia
Mohamed Salah and Omar Marmoush carry Egypt’s hopes as the Pharaohs prepare to face Ethiopia tonight in the African qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.
Coach Hossam Hassan is counting on the Premier League duo to spark the attack at Cairo International Stadium and deliver a result that edges Egypt closer to the global stage.
Egypt currently leads Group A with 16 points, five ahead of Burkina Faso, and has its sights firmly set on qualification with four matches left. The clash with Ethiopia comes with some setbacks as several players are unavailable. Al Ahly defender Yasser Ibrahim, Zamalek midfielder Mohamed Shehata, and Pyramids winger Mostafa Fathi are all sidelined through injury, while Al Ahly’s Marawan Attia misses out through suspension.
Despite the absences, Hassan believes Salah’s sharp finishing and Marmoush’s creativity will be enough to keep the Pharaohs in control. He is expected to deploy his team in a 4-3-3 system featuring El-Shenawy in goal, a solid backline, and a midfield anchored by Hamdi Fathi. Salah, Marmoush, and Trezeguet will form the attacking trident.
