Franco-Cameroonian defender Samuel Umtiti considering retirement

France international of Cameroonian descent Samuel Umtiti is contemplating calling it a quit from professional football despite avalanche of offers on his table.

The former Barcelona star is currently without a club following his departure from Lille at the expiration of his contract with the side.

Umtiti has attracted significant interest from clubs in the Middle Eastern, but is currently uncertain about his football career.

According to reports, the 31-year-old rock-solid defender is considering retirement from professional football.

The turning point in his career came at the 2018 World Cup in Moscow, where he was a key part of France’s triumphant squad.

However, prior to the tournament, he refused a necessary knee surgery that could have ruled him out of the World Cup. In hindsight, that decision marked the beginning of a dramatic downturn in the Frenchman’s career.

Umtiti has featured for a hosts of clubs in his playing career including Lyon, Barcelona, Lecce, Barcelona, with his last club being Lille.

The defender has racked up 31 appearances for the France national team, scoring four goals across the period.
