Atlético Madrid have approached Atalanta regarding a possible move for Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman, though negotiations remain at an early stage.

According to Mundo Deportivo, discussions have taken place between Atlético, Atalanta and the player’s representatives, but no agreement has yet been reached.

The Italian side are holding firm on their demands, which the Spanish club have not so far met.

Atletico de Madrid had negotiations with Ademola Lookman and Atalanta, but they are yet to meet the demands of the Italian club, the outlet reported.

Lookman has become one of Atalanta’s most influential players since joining the Bergamo-based side in 2022, playing a decisive role in their attack and impressing with his creativity, directness and goalscoring ability.

His performances have also made him a regular for Nigeria, where he is considered one of the key figures in the Super Eagles’ frontline.

Atalanta are understood to prefer selling Lookman abroad rather than strengthening a domestic rival.

The Serie A side previously resisted interest from Inter Milan, signalling a reluctance to lose the 26-year-old to another Italian club.

That stance could give Atlético encouragement, though they will need to raise their offer if they are to persuade Atalanta to part ways with one of their standout players.

Lookman’s representatives are also exploring opportunities in England, with several Premier League clubs reportedly sounding out the possibility of bringing him back.

Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and Manchester City have all been linked, though none has yet made a formal move.

A return to the Premier League would mark a familiar step for the winger, who has previously played for Everton, Fulham and Leicester City.

The player’s versatility and ability to operate across the forward line make him an attractive option for clubs seeking attacking reinforcements.

For Atlético, his pace and direct style could add a fresh dimension to Diego Simeone’s side, who are looking to strengthen their attacking depth ahead of the new season.

Atalanta, however, are under no pressure to sell and may demand a significant fee to sanction a departure.

With interest from both Spain and England, the situation is expected to develop in the coming weeks as clubs weigh up whether to meet Atalanta’s valuation.

For now, Lookman’s future remains undecided, but Atlético’s interest signals growing recognition of the Nigerian forward’s impact in Serie A and his rising value on the European stage.
