Newcastle United set to decide on future of Swedish-Eritrean forward Alexander Isak

Newcastle United will decide on the future of Sweden international of Eritrean descent in the coming days ahead of the soon to start football campaign.

Isak has become a priority target for fellow Premier League outfit Liverpool, who are executing an aggressive effort to capture the attacker.

The highly rated attacker has refused to sign a new contract with Newcastle, expressing his desire to join Liverpool this summer.

Newcastle United intends to secure a replacement for Isak before sanctioning a move away from the club in the current window.

Having missed out on Benjamin Sesko to Manchester United, the Magpies continue to explore their options in an attempt to get Isak’s replacement.

However, Newcastle’s head coach Eddie Howe has broken his silence on the unfolding events.

“The club will decide on Isak’s future. I don’t know what that decision will be. Of course, I have an outcome I want most of all. I want the best, strongest squad possible, but I also want to see players who genuinely want to play for this club” he said.

Newcastle have been pushing for Isak to sign a new, improved contract that would include a mandatory sale clause for next season. But Alexander himself is firmly against this idea and has staged a real boycott against the club.

Isak joined Newcastle from Real Sociedad in 2022 for €70 million and has since played 109 matches, scoring 62 goals and providing 11 assists.
