Bundesliga side Wolfsburg is currently front-runner in the race to secure the signing of Moroccan right-back Zakaria El Wahidi from Belgian club Genk.
The young defender has drawn significant interest from several European clubs following a series of impressive performances.
Among the contenders was Portuguese giants Benfica, who recently extended El Wahidi’s contract for a second season.
However, Genk’s firm financial demands reportedly proved a stumbling block for Benfica’s negotiations.
According to sources close to the transfer talks, Wolfsburg now holds the strongest and most advanced offer for El Wahidi, with only minor details left to finalize the deal.
El Wahidi’s profile has been boosted by his role in Morocco’s Olympic team, which clinched the bronze medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
He was also included in Morocco’s squad for the friendly matches against Tunisia and Benin in June, underscoring his growing prominence on the international stage.
