Morocco reassure CAF readiness to host 2025 Africa Cup of Nations
Fouzi Lekjaa, President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, has reaffirmed Morocco’s unwavering commitment to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) regarding the readiness of stadiums set to host the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
With less than six months remaining before the tournament kicks off, Morocco has assured the CAF delegation—currently in the country for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations finals—that all stadium-related works will be completed well ahead of the November deadline previously agreed upon.
According to reports, Morocco has informed CAF that eight of the nine stadiums will undergo maintenance, renovation, or reconstruction and be fully ready by October 2025.
The Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, earmarked for the tournament’s opening and closing ceremonies, is expected to be ready even earlier—in September—when it will host the Morocco-Niger World Cup qualifier.
Morocco’s meticulous preparations have garnered widespread praise from CAF officials, especially following their inspection of the Rabat Olympic Stadium, the venue for the ongoing Women’s Africa Cup of Nations finals.
Remarkably, this stadium was constructed in just nine months, setting a record for speed and efficiency.
The 2025 AFCON tournament is scheduled to run from December 21, 2025, through January 18, 2026.
