Pre-season

Moroccan giants Wydad Athletic Club will hold their pre-season training camp in Agadir as new head coach Paulo Sergio steps up preparations for the upcoming football season.

The decision was taken after the Portuguese coach agreed with the club’s management to stage the camp in the southern Moroccan city.

Wydad will travel to Agadir after Thursday’s friendly against Ittihad Tanger, with Sergio set to use the camp to assess his squad before decisions are made over potential departures during the summer transfer window.

New signings join the squad

The training camp will give Sergio an opportunity to work with several new arrivals as he begins to shape his team.

Among those expected to participate are Rachid Ghanmi, Salah Eddine Koufi, Jordanian midfielder Nizar Rashdan, Yahya Attia Allah, Yahya Jabran, Ayman Hassouni and Hamza Jenyan Allah.

Sergio will assess the newcomers alongside the existing squad before determining which players fit into his plans for the new campaign.

The friendly against Ittihad Tanger will provide the first opportunity for the coach to evaluate his players before the more intensive work in Agadir.

Major departures already confirmed

Wydad have undergone significant changes during the close season, with several players already leaving the club.

Among those who have departed are Amin Abou El Fath, Abdelghafour Lamirat, Brazilian Arthur Wendrovski, Tanzanian Suleiman Mwambo, Noureddine Amrabat, Wissam Benidir, Abdelali El Mohammadi and Ayoub Bouchta.

The number of departures underlines the scale of the rebuilding process facing Sergio as Wydad prepare for the new season.

The Agadir camp is therefore expected to be an important stage in determining the final shape of the squad and identifying the players who will form part of the club’s plans for the campaign ahead.
