French coach Hubert Velud has confirmed that he missed out on the MC Alger job after being beaten to the role by Rulani Mokwena.
The promising South African gaffer has been confirmed as the new head coach of the Algerian club. He replaces Tunisian coach Khaled Ben Yahia.
Mokwena signed a two-year deal with the club, and it has also been reported that he will be bringing two assistants as part of his coaching staff.
Having missed out on the job, Velud has praised Mokwena following his appointment, while also revealing that he was in the running for the MC Alger hot seat.
“Mokwena is a young and ambitious coach, part of a new generation of coaches on the African continent,” he told Footalgeriedz.
“He loves possession football, relies on building play from the back, and prefers a modern attacking approach.
“His style did not produce positive results in Morocco, but conditions might be better with Mouloudia Algiers.”
Velud also admitted to having been in the running for the position but accepted the club’s decision to appoint Mokwena instead.
“I would have loved to coach a prestigious club like Mouloudia, but I wish Mokwena all the best.”
