RS Berkane head coach Moine Chaabani has been entrusted with the crucial decision on whether veteran defender Youssoufa Dayo will stay with the club for another season or part ways after nearly a decade of service.
The club’s board of directors has deferred the final verdict on Dayo’s future to Chaabani, as they weigh the option of renewing his contract or ending his long-standing tenure.
The 32-year-old Burkinabe international has spent nine years with the Moroccan side, becoming the longest-serving foreign player in the history of the Botola Pro League.
During his time with the Orange Boys, Dayo cemented his legacy by winning every major honour available: three CAF Confederation Cups, three CAF Throne Cups, the Moroccan League title, and the CAF Super Cup.
However, recent dips in form and his age have cast doubt over his place in the squad, particularly as RS Berkane prepares for its maiden campaign in the CAF Champions League.
While some within the club question his continued value on the pitch, others argue that Dayo’s leadership and experience could be invaluable in navigating the demands of continental football.
The final call now lies with Chaabani, who must balance the club’s ambitions with the legacy of one of its most decorated players.
