President of the Moroccan Professional League, Abdel Salam Belqchour, has hailed the recent presidential elections at Raja Club Athletic as a landmark moment in the club’s history, calling the process “historic and unprecedented.”
Belqchour, who presided over the general assembly, praised the club’s commitment to democratic principles during the 10-hour session that culminated in the election of Jawad Al-Zayat as president.
“Raja provided a valuable lesson and an exemplary model in democratic conduct, with three candidates competing in a spirit of complete and mutual respect,” Belqchour said in a televised interview.
He lauded the lengthy deliberations as a testament to Raja’s institutional strength and its stature as one of Morocco’s footballing powerhouses.
“These hours of dialogue reflect the depth of the club’s identity and affirm its place as one of the cornerstones of Moroccan football,” he added. “This election marks the beginning of a new chapter in Raja’s history.”
A known supporter of Raja, Belqchour had previously withdrawn his candidacy from the club’s leadership race.
