Al-Ahly have been dealt a major setback with winger Taher Mohamed ruled out of their next two Club World Cup matches due to a front muscle injury.
The Egyptian attacker sustained the issue during training and will miss key games against Brazil’s Palmeiras and Portugal’s FC Porto. Medical scans were conducted under the supervision of team doctor Dr. Ahmed Jaballah following Monday’s session, confirming Taher’s unavailability.
Taher will now begin a focused treatment and rehabilitation plan in hopes of regaining fitness for the later stages of the tournament.
The timing could not be worse for Al-Ahly, who are preparing to face Palmeiras on Thursday in a crucial Group A fixture at the MetLife Stadium in New York. The Red Devils are aiming to bounce back from a goalless draw in their opening game against Inter Miami, which took place at the Hard Rock Stadium.
With Taher missing, coach Jose Riveiro may need to tweak his attacking options as Al-Ahly chase a first group-stage win in the competition and look to advance past a tough group.
