Guinean international Ilaix Moriba is on the verge of extending his stay at Celta Vigo, with the 22-year-old midfielder having reportedly reached an agreement with the Spanish club to continue on loan.

The development signals Moriba’s strong interest in remaining with the La Liga side, where he has gradually carved out a consistent role.

Sources close to the negotiations suggest that all parties are now working towards finalising the extension, which would see the dynamic midfielder continue his progress in Spain’s top flight.

Moriba, who is currently contracted to German Bundesliga side RB Leipzig, has spent the past seasons on loan at Celta Vigo, where he has impressed with his performances and tactical maturity.

While the loan agreement has served all parties well, Celta now appear keen to make the arrangement more long-term.

However, the road to a permanent deal remains dependent on Leipzig, who still hold Moriba’s registration. Celta Vigo are currently engaged in discussions with the German club to renegotiate the financial terms of the original agreement.

Central to these talks is the reduction of the transfer clause, which was initially deemed too high for a full transfer to be immediately feasible.

Club officials at Celta are believed to be optimistic about reaching a compromise with Leipzig. The Spanish side is pushing for more manageable financial terms that would allow them to secure Moriba’s services beyond the current loan period. Reducing the buyout clause is seen as essential for this move to materialise.

Moriba’s willingness to remain at Balaídos has been a key factor in the ongoing discussions. The midfielder is understood to have expressed a clear desire to continue his development in Galicia, where he has found a stable environment and a system that suits his playing style.

The midfielder’s performances in La Liga have not gone unnoticed, and his potential to become a mainstay in Celta’s midfield has encouraged the club to pursue this extension with urgency.

Moriba’s combination of physical presence, composure on the ball, and vision has made him a valuable asset, particularly in a league that values technical quality and midfield intelligence.

For Leipzig, the negotiations also present an opportunity to reassess their long-term plans for the player, who joined the club from Barcelona with high expectations but has since struggled to establish himself in the Bundesliga.

With Moriba thriving in Spain, Leipzig may be open to a revised agreement that benefits all parties.

As talks continue, Celta Vigo hope to finalise terms before the summer window fully opens, allowing Moriba to return for pre-season preparations without uncertainty hanging over his future.

The club views his continued presence as vital to their midfield structure for the upcoming campaign.

Should the final details be agreed upon, Moriba would remain in familiar surroundings, with the potential for a permanent transfer later down the line.

The outcome of the discussions with Leipzig will determine whether Celta Vigo can secure a long-term solution for one of their most promising players.
