Rulani Mokwena is set to miss out on compensation worth $1 million following the termination of his contract at Wydad Athletic Club.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns head trainer joined the Moroccan side in July 2024 on a three-year deal, has left the club due to poor performances.

Mokwena was expected to take home $1 million as his compensation, but a report has emerged suggesting that he will not receive any payments beyond his outstanding dues.

After Wydad finished the 2024/25 Botola Pro 1 season in third place, Mokwena is reportedly not entitled to any further compensation.

The 38-year-old will only be paid his salary for May and June, along with other match bonuses and entitlements stipulated in his contract.

The report adds that his contract specified that he would receive a payout of $1 million if he won the Throne Cup or finished first or second in the league.

Since Mokwena did not meet those conditions, he was denied the lucrative payout.

Meanwhile, his replacement, Amine Benhachem, will take on the permanent role of head coach, moving from his previous position as sporting director.

Benhachem is expected to sign a deal lasting until June 2027, which will include improved financial terms. He will lead the club to the FIFA Club World Cup which is scheduled to kick off in June.
