Zamalek’s league title hopes took another hit after a frustrating 0-0 draw against Al Masry on Thursday night at Borg El Arab Stadium.
The White Knights struggled to break down a resolute Al Masry side, failing to find the back of the net despite several promising chances.
Portuguese manager Jose Peseiro’s men briefly thought they had the lead in the 63rd minute when Nasser Mansi scored, but the goal was ruled out for a handball. The result leaves Zamalek stuck in third place with 39 points—eight behind league leaders Pyramids—making their title chances even more difficult.
Mohamed Shehata earned the man of the match award after a composed performance, though he missed a golden opportunity in front of goal. Al Masry, led by Tunisian coach Anis Boujelbene, moved up to fourth with 35 points.
Zamalek pushed hard in the second half, with attempts from Mostafa Shalaby, Dunga, and Omar Gaber, but Al Masry’s defence and keeper Mahmoud Gad held firm. Zamalek will next face National Bank on May 5.
