Wydad Casablanca has made several strategic adjustments ahead of their crucial Moroccan league encounter against AS FAR this weekend.
As previously reported by AfricaSoccer.com, head coach Rulani Mokwena, who is reportedly on his way out of the club, has been granted leave. In his absence, the team will be led by an interim coach.
A club source confirmed: “The club has taken several important decisions to overcome this crisis. The first is to prepare Benhachem to sit on the bench as an assistant coach for the match against the Royal Army, after changing his position from sports director, which he recently assumed after leaving Zamalek, to interim coach of Wydad until the end of the season.”
In another key decision, club captain Jamal Eddine Harkas has been stripped of the armband following intense pressure and protests from fans. Goalkeeper Mehdi Benabid is now expected to assume captaincy duties.
To further motivate the squad, Wydad’s management has promised a substantial, though undisclosed, financial bonus should the team secure a victory over their rivals.
The win would narrow the gap between the two sides to just three points, keeping Wydad in the race for second place.
The high-stakes encounter is set for Saturday at Stade Mohammed V and will be part of the 28th round of the Moroccan Professional League.
Wydad currently sits third in the table with 45 points, while AS FAR holds second place with 51 points.
