French-Ivorian Desire Doué dazzles with stunning strike as PSG sink Aston Villa in Champions League first leg
Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) secured a 3-1 victory over Aston Villa in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final at the Parc des Princes, with 19-year-old Désiré Doué delivering a standout performance.
The French-Ivorian midfielder’s exceptional display was pivotal in PSG’s comeback after conceding the opening goal.
Born in Angers, France, to an Ivorian father and French mother, Doué has been making significant strides since his transfer from Rennes to PSG in August 2024.
His technical skills and vision have been evident throughout the season, contributing three goals in 12 Champions League appearances.
Aston Villa took an unexpected lead in the 35th minute when Morgan Rogers capitalized on a swift counter-attack. However, PSG responded swiftly, with Doué equalizing just before halftime.
Receiving the ball on the left flank, he maneuvered past a defender and unleashed a powerful shot into the top corner, leaving goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez with no chance.
Building on this momentum, PSG dominated the second half. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia put the hosts ahead early after the restart, showcasing individual brilliance by dribbling past Axel Disasi and finishing emphatically.
The victory was sealed in stoppage time when Nuno Mendes added a third goal, further extending PSG’s advantage.
This result places PSG in a strong position ahead of the second leg at Villa Park.
Doué’s emergence as a key player highlights PSG’s blend of youthful talent and experience as they pursue their first Champions League title.
