Wydad Casablanca head coach Rulani Mokwena has expressed satisfaction with his team’s progress as they prepare to face CODM Meknes on Saturday.
Despite a challenging start to his tenure, Mokwena has overseen a significant turnaround, guiding Wydad to five consecutive league victories—the club’s longest winning streak in Botola Pro since the 2020/21 season.
After losing his first match in charge, the South African coach has steadied the team, with Wydad scoring 13 goals and conceding just three during this impressive run.
Mokwena acknowledged his squad’s strong performances but remains focused on closing the gap with league leaders RS Berkane. Securing qualification for the CAF Champions League is among his primary objectives this season.
Looking ahead to the upcoming fixture, Mokwena anticipates a difficult challenge against a CODM Meknes side that has proven resilient in recent weeks.
Meknes, unbeaten in their last five matches, claimed a 2-0 victory over Wydad in October 2024.
The Wydad boss is particularly wary of their opponents’ strength on the counterattack, emphasizing the need for tactical discipline.
Meknes is a team that thrives on quick transitions. They can be very dangerous if given space, so we have to be well-prepared,” Mokwena said.
🖤 Our deepest condolences to Coach Mokwena on the passing of his beloved grandmother. May her soul rest in peace. In this difficult time, our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family. Stay strong, Coach. The Wydad family stands with you. 🙏 pic.twitter.com/GNDEop7YIv

The coach was absent from Wydad’s emphatic 5-1 win over Chabab Mohammedia, having traveled home following the passing of his grandmother.
He expressed gratitude for the club’s support during the difficult period and praised the sense of unity within the squad.
Wydad is more than just a football club, it is a family united in good times and bad,” he said.
As Wydad continue their push for a top finish, Mokwena will be hoping his side can maintain their momentum and extend their winning run against a determined Meknes outfit.
