Nottingham Forest’s Taiwo Awoniyi set for Newcastle clash wearing protective mask after nose injury
Taiwo Awoniyi will return to action for Nottingham Forest in their upcoming Premier League clash against Newcastle United, but the Nigerian striker will do so wearing a protective mask following a broken nose sustained during an FA Cup fixture.
The 27-year-old was forced to sit out Forest’s recent 2-1 defeat to Fulham but has now been cleared by medical staff to rejoin the squad.
Awoniyi’s injury occurred during a heavy collision against Exeter City in the FA Cup, leaving him with a fractured nose.
Though deemed fit to play, he will have to adjust to the discomfort of wearing a protective mask on the pitch.
Nuno Confirms Awoniyi’s Availability
Head coach Nuno Espirito Santo confirmed Awoniyi’s availability ahead of the crucial showdown with Newcastle United. While the mask ensures his safety, the Forest boss acknowledged that it brings its own set of challenges.
“The mask is always something that bothers players, but he is trying to get used to it,” Nuno told reporters during a pre-match press conference.
Awoniyi isn’t the only Forest player adapting to life behind a protective mask.
Teammate Neco Williams has also been wearing one recently, offering some insight into the adjustment process Awoniyi now faces.
Despite the initial discomfort, the coaching staff remains confident in the striker’s ability to make an impact.
Key Role in Forest’s Push for Points
Awoniyi’s return comes at a crucial moment for Nottingham Forest as they prepare for a high-stakes match against Newcastle United.
The game, scheduled for Sunday at 2 pm, holds significant weight in Forest’s quest to secure vital Premier League points.
The Nigerian international has been an influential figure for the Reds this season, with his strength, pace, and clinical finishing often proving decisive in key fixtures.
His presence up front provides Forest with a much-needed boost as they face a Newcastle side equally hungry for a strong finish to the season.
While wearing the mask may limit Awoniyi’s peripheral vision and add some discomfort, the forward is determined to put in a strong performance.
Forest will be relying on his attacking prowess to break down Newcastle’s defense and secure a positive result.
Awoniyi’s Resilience Shines Through
This isn’t the first time Taiwo Awoniyi has faced adversity in his career. Known for his work ethic and resilience, the Nigerian striker has previously battled back from injuries and setbacks, demonstrating his commitment to the team.
His ability to adapt will now be tested once more as he takes to the field under less-than-ideal circumstances. Yet, for Awoniyi, the focus remains on helping Nottingham Forest climb the Premier League table.
The match against Newcastle presents an opportunity not only for Forest to earn vital points but also for Awoniyi to make a statement about his determination and commitment to the team, mask or no mask.
As fans eagerly await kick-off at the City Ground, all eyes will be on Awoniyi to see if he can rise above the discomfort and deliver when it matters most.
