Ademola Lookman reflects on penalty miss as Gasperini delivers blunt assessment

Ademola Lookman has spoken out following his missed penalty in Atalanta’s latest fixture, acknowledging the disappointment while vowing to move forward.

Meanwhile, head coach Gian Piero Gasperini did not hold back in his post-match remarks, making it clear where his frustrations lay.

Lookman, who has been a key player for Atalanta, had the chance to put his side ahead from the penalty spot but failed to convert.

Addressing the miss, the Nigerian international remained composed, focusing on the bigger picture.

“As a player, you always want to step up and take responsibility,” Lookman said. “Unfortunately, today it didn’t go as planned. It’s tough, but I have to keep my head up and move on.”

His missed opportunity proved costly, as Atalanta struggled to regain control of the game.

Gasperini, known for his forthright approach, did not shy away from criticizing the team’s performance, making particular reference to the wasted chance.

“We cannot afford to squander opportunities like that at this level,” Gasperini said. “These moments define matches, and we have to be more clinical in front of goal.”

Despite the disappointment, Lookman remains determined to bounce back. The forward has been instrumental in Atalanta’s attacking play this season, and his focus will now be on making amends in the upcoming matches.
