Arsenal’s Ethan Nwaneri is just two goals away from equaling the record set by Michael Owen and Wayne Rooney for the most goals scored before turning 18 in English football.
Both Owen and Rooney netted nine times in all competitions before their 18th birthdays, a milestone no other Premier League youngster has matched.
Nwaneri, 17, is on the verge of joining them after a standout season.
He made his Arsenal debut at 15 in 2022, becoming the youngest player in Premier League history.
His first senior goals came in September 2024, scoring twice against Bolton in the Carabao Cup before adding another against Preston.
He has since netted in the Premier League and Champions League.
With seven matches before his 18th birthday on March 21, Nwaneri has a chance to match or surpass the record.
However, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta remains cautious about his development.
I am responsible for building a career for him,” Arteta said. “You have to do that brick by brick. Today he put another brick.
Now we have to put some cement, make sure it doesn’t get dry so we can put another one and that will stick.
With upcoming fixtures against Leicester, West Ham, and Nottingham Forest, Nwaneri could soon cement his place in Premier League history.
