Everton are reportedly considering a late move for Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi before the January transfer window closes.
According to Tuttosport (via Everton News), the Merseyside club have identified the Nigerian international as a potential target as they look to bolster their attacking options.
The Toffees are said to have a £33.5 million budget set aside to strengthen their squad before the deadline.
Awoniyi, 27, has struggled for consistent playing time at Forest this season, making 18 appearances in the Premier League but starting only twice.
He has fallen behind top scorer Chris Wood in Nuno Espírito Santo’s attacking hierarchy, leading to speculation about his future at the City Ground.
Despite Everton’s reported interest, the forward has downplayed any possibility of a move away from Forest.
“Transfers are part of football, and there will always be speculation, but my focus is entirely on Nottingham Forest,” Awoniyi told Nottingham Post.
“This is a team with a lot of potential, and I want to be here to help achieve something special.
I’m not thinking about leaving, I’m thinking about how I can contribute more to the success of this club.
Earlier this month, Awoniyi ended a 324-day goal drought, finding the net in Forest’s 3-0 victory over Wolves.
The Nigerian striker, now in his third season at the club, joined from Union Berlin in the summer of 2022 and played a crucial role in Forest’s survival during his debut campaign, scoring 10 goals in 27 league appearances.
He followed that up with six goals and three assists in 20 games last season.
With the transfer deadline fast approaching, it remains to be seen whether Everton will make a formal offer or if Awoniyi will stay at Forest to fight for his place.
