Greek giants, Panathinaikos, are reportedly exploring options to retain Moroccan international midfielder Azzedine Ounahi beyond his current loan deal from Olympique de Marseille (OM).
Ounahi joined Panathinaikos last September on loan with an option to buy set at €11 million. Impressed by the 24-year-old’s performances, the Athens-based club is keen to extend his stay but finds the current purchase option too high.
Reports suggest that Panathinaikos may seek renegotiation with OM for a new loan arrangement or a reduced purchase fee.
In the 2023/24 season, Ounahi has been a vital player for Panathinaikos, featuring in 19 matches across all competitions, contributing a goal and an assist.
His consistent displays have highlighted his value in the squad, reinforcing the club’s interest in keeping him.
Currently under contract with Marseille until June 2027, Ounahi is valued at €10 million by Transfermarkt and earns an annual salary of €4.15 million.
While Marseille may be open to discussions, the player’s salary and transfer valuation will be key factors in the negotiations.
If successful, a prolonged stay at Panathinaikos could provide Ounahi with the opportunity to further establish himself in European football and continue his development in a competitive environment.
