English Championship side, Luton Town, has bolstered its defense with the signing of promising Congolese defender Christ Makosso.
The club officially announced the transfer on Tuesday, December 31, marking their first acquisition in the January transfer window.
“The Hatters have shaken hands on the first deal of the January transfer window by agreeing the signing of highly rated centre-half Christ Makosso from January 1st, subject to international clearance,” the club’s statement read.
The 20-year-old defender, who has already earned three international caps for Congo, joins Luton Town from Belgian second-division side RWD Molenbeek for an undisclosed fee.
Makosso’s journey began with French side Sochaux, where he was signed in 2023 after being scouted from Congo. He made his debut in France’s second tier during the 2022/23 season.
His impressive performances caught the attention of Congo’s national team selectors, earning him his first international call-up in November 2023.
Since then, he has become a regular for his country, featuring most recently in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against South Africa in October.
After spending a year in Belgium, Makosso now looks forward to continuing his development and contributing to Luton Town’s aspirations.
With his solid defensive skills and international experience, the young centre-back is expected to make a significant impact at Kenilworth Road as the Hatters aim to strengthen their squad for the remainder of the season.
