Morocco’s Sanaa Mssoudy, forward for AS FAR and the national team, has been shortlisted for the prestigious Women’s Player of the Year Award at the 2024 CAF Awards. The ceremony will take place on December 16 in Marrakech, as announced by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) on Thursday.
Joining Mssoudy in the final three contenders are Zambia’s Barbra Banda and Nigeria’s Chiamaka Nnadozie, according to CAF’s statement.
“Best Player of the CAF Women’s Champions League 2024, Sanaâ Mssoudy lit up the competition with her exceptional performances, playing a key role in her team’s victory,” noted the footballing body.
CAF highlighted Mssoudy’s exceptional vision, polished technique, and sharp attacking instincts, which proved decisive during pivotal moments of the competition.
“Her leadership on the field, combined with her unwavering determination, inspired her teammates and won over the fans,” the organization added.
The 24-year-old forward’s contributions were instrumental in AS FAR’s triumph in the CAF Women’s Champions League earlier this year.
Her performances have earned widespread acclaim, not only elevating her personal standing but also bringing increased attention to women’s football in Morocco and across the continent.
CAF described Mssoudy’s nomination as the culmination of an extraordinary year, during which she showcased relentless commitment and skill, furthering the prominence of women’s football in Africa.
The 2024 CAF Awards will honor achievements in African football between January and October of the same year.
Winners in all categories will be selected through votes cast by CAF’s Technical Committee, media professionals, coaches, and captains from member associations, as well as representatives from clubs competing in interclub tournaments.
The December 16 ceremony in Marrakech will serve as a celebration of the continent’s top football talents, with Mssoudy representing the hope of a Moroccan victory in one of the event’s most coveted categories.
