Ley Matampi’s time at Coastal Union FC has officially come to an end, with the Tanzanian club announcing the termination of his contract. The 35-year-old Congolese goalkeeper is now a free agent and will seek new opportunities in his football career.
In a statement, Coastal Union acknowledged Matampi’s contributions during his tenure at the club. “An agreement has been reached between our club and our goalkeeper Ley Matampi Mvumbi to end their collaboration.
His experience greatly contributed to our successes last season. We wish him the best for the rest of his career and more success in his life,” the club said.
Matampi joined Coastal Union last season from FC Saint Éloi Lupopo in Lubumbashi. His arrival proved instrumental in the club’s campaign, with the veteran goalkeeper helping secure a spot in continental competition.
Matampi’s performance during the 2023-2024 Tanzanian Premier League season earned him recognition as the league’s best goalkeeper.
However, his situation took a sharp turn this season, as he failed to make a single appearance for Coastal Union. The lack of playing time and his exclusion from the club’s plans ultimately led to the decision to part ways.
The end of Matampi’s stint in Tanzania marks the conclusion of an era for the goalkeeper, who has also represented the Democratic Republic of Congo at the international level.
With his experience and proven track record, Matampi is expected to attract interest from clubs seeking an experienced presence between the posts.
As Matampi looks ahead to the next chapter in his career, Coastal Union will aim to rebuild its squad and continue its progress in both domestic and African competitions.
The departure of their standout goalkeeper signals a period of transition for the Tanzanian side.
