English-born Ghanaian striker Daniel Agyei played the hero as Leyton Orient edged Oldham Athletic 2-1 in a pulsating FA Cup Round 2 tie at the Gaughan Group Stadium.
Agyei’s decisive header in the dying moments of extra time ensured the O’s marched into the next round, leaving Oldham heartbroken.
The game started cautiously, with Oldham taking the lead in the 47th minute. Emmanuel Monthe pounced on a Reagan Ogle cross, firing a close-range effort past the helpless keeper. Leyton Orient’s resilience shone through, and deep into stoppage time, goalkeeper Josh Keeley equalized with a precise header off Tom James’ delivery.
Agyei had an eventful night. Despite missing a penalty in extra time, the striker redeemed himself spectacularly in the 120th minute, connecting with Sonny Perkins’ corner to power a header into the top corner. It was his perseverance and sharp instincts that defined the match.
Leyton Orient will now shift focus to their League One clash against Bristol Rovers on December 3, but not before celebrating this memorable FA Cup triumph.
