Kaizer Chiefs name starting XI for crucial Sundowns clash at FNB Stadium

Kaizer Chiefs have named their starting line-up for this afternoon’s Betway Premiership meeting with Mamelodi Sundowns at FNB Stadium, with Fernando Da Cruz’s side looking to maintain their perfect start to the league season.

Chiefs have won both of their opening league matches, beating Kruger United and Sekhukhune United. Those results have put Amakhosi top of the Betway Premiership on six points, while their six goals in those two games underline the attacking form they have shown so far.

The match against Sundowns follows a setback in the MTN8, where Chiefs were knocked out after a 1-0 defeat by Lamontville Golden Arrows. They will now turn their attention back to the league, with the fixture providing an opportunity to strengthen their position at the top of the table.

A victory would be particularly significant for Chiefs because it would be their first league win against Sundowns since April 2021. On that occasion, they prevailed 2-1, with Ashley du Preez scoring and Mosa Lebusa also contributing an own goal.

Chiefs can also take encouragement from their most recent cup meeting with Sundowns. Amakhosi defeated them 2-1 in the Nedbank Cup semi-final in April 2025 at Loftus Versfeld Stadium.

The fixture has generally produced goals in recent years. Across the last 20 meetings between the two clubs, there have been only two goalless draws.

Da Cruz has selected Petersen in goal, with Monyane, Miguel, Kwinika and Moloisane forming the defensive unit. Mthethwa and Maboe are included in midfield, while Ndlovu, Mmodi and Baartman will support Phili in the attack.
