Mali left-back Alou Doumbia switches to Durban City for Betway Premiership move

Mali defender Alou Doumbia has joined Durban City FC from Djoliba AC, bringing the 23-year-old left-back to South Africa’s Betway Premiership.

The move was completed on 15 August 2026, with Doumbia leaving the Malian club after featuring in African club competitions. No transfer fee has been disclosed.

Doumbia arrives with experience of both the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup. He made nine appearances in the Champions League, playing 486 minutes, and added six appearances and 540 minutes in the Confederation Cup.

Those matches represent his recorded competitive experience at continental level before the switch to Durban. His involvement across both tournaments gives the new arrival a background in matches involving clubs from across Africa, although no goals or assists are recorded in those appearances.

Born on 26 September 2002, Doumbia is 23 and stands 1.80 metres tall. He is listed primarily as a left-back and joins Durban City as a defender following his spell with Djoliba AC.

The transfer adds a Malian player to a Durban City squad competing in South Africa’s top-flight Betway Premiership. Doumbia’s arrival also marks a move between two clubs from different national football systems, with Djoliba based in Mali and Durban City operating in South Africa.

His previous club, Djoliba AC, was the only side listed in his transfer history before the move. Doumbia’s recorded appearances for the Malian team came in the two major CAF club competitions, with his Champions League involvement totalling 486 minutes and his Confederation Cup participation totalling 540 minutes.

Durban City have now secured Doumbia’s services, giving the South African club a left-footed defensive option with recent experience of African competition. The deal was registered at the start of the 2026-27 season.

Doumbia’s completed move from Djoliba AC to Durban City was finalised on 15 August 2026.
