Al Ahly agree deal to sign Al Mokawloon Al Arab playmaker Mohamed Abdel Nasser

Al Ahly have agreed a deal with Al Mokawloon Al Arab to sign attacking midfielder Mohamed Abdel Nasser as they continue to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season.

The agreement was completed before the Egyptian transfer window closes at midnight on Saturday, 15 August. Egyptian clubs will not be permitted to register any further new signings after the deadline.

Abdel Nasser plays as a playmaker for Al Mokawloon Al Arab and was promoted from the club’s youth system to the senior side in January 2024.

The midfielder has made 40 appearances for Al Mokawloon Al Arab, scoring three goals and providing two assists.

The move is part of an active recruitment period for Al Ahly, who have officially completed six signings so far. Their additions are Akram Tawfik, Ali Mahmoud, Mahmoud Salah, Aqtay Abdullah, Sofiane Benjeghida and Monsef Bekrar.

Al Ahly are currently holding a training camp in Spain as they prepare for the forthcoming campaign. They have played two friendly matches during the camp, recording a 3-0 victory over Badalona before suffering a 2-1 defeat by Europa.

Their final pre-season test will come against Barcelona in the Joan Gamper Trophy at Camp Nou next Wednesday. The match will be Al Ahly’s final fixture before the start of the new season.

Al Ahly finished third in the Egyptian Premier League last season with 53 points.

They will begin their new campaign against Eastern Company Enppi on Sunday, 23 August.

The club are continuing to reshape their squad after a season in which they ended third in the league, with the agreement for Abdel Nasser providing another option in the attacking midfield area. The player’s progress has come quickly since his promotion to the first team at Al Mokawloon Al Arab in early 2024.

The transfer also comes as the domestic market approaches its final deadline, leaving clubs with only a short period to complete any remaining business. Al Ahly have already secured six new players and are now set to add Abdel Nasser to their preparations for the season.

Their schedule in Spain has provided a mixture of results. The 3-0 win against Badalona was followed by the narrow loss to Europa, while the meeting with Barcelona at Camp Nou will offer the team its highest-profile test before competitive action begins.

Al Ahly’s first league fixture against Eastern Company Enppi on 23 August will mark the start of their attempt to improve on last season’s third-place finish.
