Alphonso Davies faces fine and license suspension for drunk driving incident
Canadian international of Ghanaian descent, Alphonso Davies has landed in legal trouble after being caught driving under the influence in the early hours of Friday morning.
The incident occurred in central Munich, following Bayern’s victory over Paris Saint-Germain.
According to reports from Bild, the Bayern Munich defender was stopped by police during a routine traffic check.
Officers detected the smell of alcohol and proceeded to administer a breathalyzer test, which revealed a blood alcohol level of 0.6 grams per litre.
Penalties Within Legal Limits
While his reading exceeds Germany’s legal limit for experienced drivers, which is set at 0.5 grams per litre, it remains below the threshold for criminal charges, which begins at 0.8 grams per litre.
As a result, Davies is likely to face a 500-euro fine and a one-month suspension of his driving license.
Despite the incident, the 23-year-old returned to training with Bayern Munich the following day, showing no outward signs of distress over the situation.
A Cautionary Tale
The lapse in judgment serves as a reminder for professional athletes of the importance of setting a positive example both on and off the field.
For Davies, whose performances on the pitch have earned him international acclaim, the incident is unlikely to derail his career, but it underscores the responsibility that comes with his high-profile status.
While the legal repercussions for the Bayern defender may be minimal, the spotlight will undoubtedly remain on him as fans and critics alike watch to see how he handles this moment of adversity.
