Fiacre Ntwari’s playing-time struggles continue on Kruger United loan

Fiacre Ntwari’s difficulties securing regular first-team football have continued at Kruger United, where the goalkeeper is spending the season on loan from Kaizer Chiefs.

The Rwanda international has made only two appearances in Kruger United’s first nine matches of the 2026/27 season, conceding six goals in the process.

Ntwari joined the PSL newcomers after his spell at Kaizer Chiefs deteriorated over the previous two years. He began the 2024/25 campaign as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper, but surrendered his opportunity after conceding 11 goals in seven matches.

Following Chiefs’ heavy Carling Knockout defeat by Mamelodi Sundowns in November 2024, Ntwari did not play again for the remainder of that season.

His situation became more difficult last term, when he made just one appearance. That match was notable because he refused to be substituted.

At the start of 2026/27, Ntwari was made available to several clubs before Kruger United agreed to take him on loan. However, he has so far struggled to displace Benin international Marcel Dandjinou as the club’s preferred goalkeeper.

Dandjinou has started seven of Kruger United’s matches, keeping three clean sheets and conceding seven goals. He also recently represented Benin against Argentina in Lionel Messi’s farewell match.

The experience appears to have strengthened Dandjinou’s position, leaving Ntwari with limited opportunities at his new club.

Despite his lack of regular football for Kruger United, Ntwari is expected to retain his place in the Rwanda national team. He has received another call-up for the back-to-back 2017 AFCON qualifiers against Mali in November.

Ntwari will have one year left on his Kaizer Chiefs contract when his loan spell at Kruger United ends.
