Moroccan full-back Achraf Hakimi has expressed that he is not overly concerned with winning the 2024 CAF Player of the Year award, despite being nominated.
The Paris Saint-Germain full-back is competing for the prestigious honor alongside Guinea’s Serhou Guirassy, Nigeria’s Ademola Lookman, Ivory Coast’s Simon Adingra, and South Africa’s Ronwen Williams.
Considered one of the top full-backs globally, Hakimi played a key role in helping PSG secure the French Ligue 1 and Coupe de France titles in 2024. He also earned a bronze medal with Morocco at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
The 26-year-old, with 10 goals in 82 appearances for Morocco, shared that he is proud of his nomination.
“It’s a source of pride and satisfaction, especially knowing that the work I’ve been doing for a long time will be rewarded with this nomination,” Hakimi told Brut via maliactu.net.
“It’s true that it’s an important trophy on an individual level, but I’m happy to be here, I hope I can win it, but if not, I’m happy to be here, and it makes me want to keep working.”
Hakimi finished second in the 2023 CAF Player of the Year race, behind winner Victor Osimhen.
