Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) Vice President George Afriyie has disclosed a key contractual clause that could see Otto Addo removed as head coach of the Black Stars following their failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Speaking on Asempa FM, Afriyie explained that the agreement with Addo allowed the GFA to terminate his contract if the team failed to secure AFCON qualification.
One of the clauses for the GFA to terminate Otto Addo’s contract is if he does not qualify the team for the AFCON, Afriyie revealed.
This insight has sparked widespread debate over Addo’s future, as the Black Stars failed to win a single game in their qualification campaign, finishing at the bottom of Group F with just three points from six matches.
This marks Ghana’s first absence from AFCON in two decades, a setback that has intensified scrutiny of the team’s management and performance.
The GFA Executive Council is set to meet on Wednesday, November 20, to evaluate the disappointing campaign and decide on the next steps for the national team.
Many fans and stakeholders have called for a complete restructuring of the Black Stars setup, while Afriyie’s comments suggest that the termination of Addo’s tenure is a real possibility under the existing terms.
This development highlights ongoing concerns about the state of Ghanaian football, with the failure to qualify seen as a symptom of deeper systemic issues that require urgent attention.
