Zambia’s Chipolopolo have moved up seven places in the latest FIFA rankings, now sitting 87th globally and 18th in Africa.
The updated rankings, released today, reflect Zambia’s recent success on the international stage.
The Chipolopolo’s rise comes after back-to-back victories in the Group G qualifiers for the Morocco 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), where they secured a spot in the tournament.
In their most recent matches, Zambia triumphed over Côte d’Ivoire with a 1-0 victory, followed by a commanding 2-0 win against Sierra Leone.
These results not only helped Zambia top their qualifying group but also contributed significantly to their rise in the FIFA standings.
Currently, African champions Côte d’Ivoire are ranked 46th in the world and 6th in Africa, while Morocco maintains its position as the continent’s top-ranked team, sitting 14th globally.
Looking ahead, Zambia’s next challenge in the World Cup qualifiers comes against Tanzania, ranked 106th in the world, and Niger, who are currently 122nd.
These upcoming fixtures are crucial as the Chipolopolo aim to continue their strong performances in the lead-up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Zambia’s upward movement in the rankings highlights the growing strength of the team and their potential to make a significant impact at both continental and global levels in the near future.
