Zamalek SC escalates legal dispute with former Coach Jaime Pacheco

Zamalek SC has filed a new legal challenge against its former coach Jaime Pacheco, seeking to overturn a FIFA ruling that ordered the Egyptian club to pay the Portuguese tactician €819,000 in unpaid wages.

The dispute stems from Pacheco’s claims of overdue payments during his tenure at the helm of the Cairo-based team.

While FIFA ruled in favor of the coach earlier this year, the White Knights have refused to accept the verdict and have now escalated the matter to the Swiss Federal Court, the highest authority for sports-related legal disputes.

Zamalek Seeks to Reduce Compensation

Under the leadership of club president Hussein Labib, Zamalek SC aims to contest the amount of compensation awarded to Pacheco.

The club, already burdened with significant financial challenges and outstanding debts, is hoping for a more favorable outcome that could potentially reduce the financial strain.

Zamalek’s latest move highlights its determination to fight the ruling despite the original decision by FIFA, which deemed the payment justified.

The case underscores ongoing challenges faced by the club, which has struggled with financial mismanagement and legal battles in recent years.

Pacheco’s Pursuit of Justice

Jaime Pacheco, who had two stints as Zamalek’s head coach, has consistently maintained that the club failed to fulfill its contractual obligations.

While FIFA’s initial verdict provided him with a legal victory, the coach may have to wait longer for closure as Zamalek pushes forward with its appeal.

Zamalek’s On-Field Performance

Meanwhile, on the pitch, Zamalek SC continues its campaign in the Egyptian Premier League under the guidance of current coach José Gomez.

The team has had a mixed start to the new season, sitting in fifth place with six points from three matches, including two wins and one defeat.

The White Knights’ next fixture is scheduled for Monday, December 2, against Ghazl El Mahalla.

As the club prepares for this encounter, its legal troubles remain an ongoing distraction, with the outcome of the Pacheco case likely to have a significant impact on its financial stability.

Broader Implications

The legal battle with Jaime Pacheco is just one of several financial and administrative challenges Zamalek SC faces.

The outcome of this case could set a precedent for how Egyptian clubs handle disputes with their former employees, as well as underline the importance of adhering to contractual agreements in football.

For now, both Zamalek and Pacheco await the decision of the Swiss Federal Court, which will ultimately determine the next chapter in this long-running dispute.
