Zamalek reject talk of Juan Bezerra sale despite ‘big offer’

Zamalek board member Ahmed Suleiman says the Egyptian club have received a substantial offer for Juan Bezerra but have no intention of selling the winger.

Speaking on MBC Masr, Suleiman confirmed that Zamalek paid $1.8m to sign Bezerra and indicated that the player has attracted significant interest after his first season with the club.

“We signed Bezerra for $1.8m and we now have a big offer for him,” Suleiman said.

However, he stressed that the offer had not changed Zamalek’s position. The club do not want to sell Bezerra and are not planning to allow any of their players to leave during the current period.

“We do not want to sell Bezerra and we will not sell any player,” Suleiman added.

He also said Zamalek had learned the importance of protecting the club’s financial interests in agreements involving overseas players.

“We learned a lesson about preserving the rights of foreign players, especially on an ongoing basis,” he said.

Bezerra joined Zamalek at the beginning of last season after moving from Ukrainian club Oleksandriya. The winger went on to play a role in a successful campaign for the Cairo-based side.

Zamalek won the Egyptian Premier League for the 15th time in their history last season, with Bezerra contributing to the achievement. The team also reached the final of the CAF Confederation Cup.

The club’s preparations for the new season begin on Saturday, 1 August, when their pre-season training camp gets under way.

Suleiman’s comments suggest that, despite the financial appeal of the proposal, Zamalek’s immediate priority is to retain the squad that delivered domestic success last season. His statement also provides a clear indication that Bezerra remains part of the club’s plans as preparations begin for the new campaign.

The exact identity of the club behind the offer was not disclosed, and no financial details were provided beyond Suleiman’s description of it as a “big offer”. There was also no indication that Zamalek had entered negotiations over a possible transfer.

Instead, the board member’s remarks focused on the club’s determination to keep their players and ensure that the terms of contracts involving foreign footballers protect Zamalek’s interests. That position comes as the side starts its preparations for another season after winning the league and reaching a continental final.
