Nasser Mensy could be suspended from Zamalek’s first-team training after his conduct during the club’s African Champions League match against the Rwandan Army.
Zamalek have already announced that the striker would receive a substantial financial penalty over his celebration after scoring in the match. The club are now considering whether further disciplinary action is required.
A source at Zamalek told FilGoal.com: “Zamalek are studying suspending Nasser Mensy from training with the first team and not limiting the punishment to a financial fine.”
The source added: “Consultations are currently taking place between the coaching staff and the club’s board of directors to reach the most appropriate decision.”
Mensy scored Zamalek’s only goal in their 1-0 victory over the Rwandan Army in the first leg of the second preliminary round of the African Champions League.
Following the match, Abdel Nasser Mohamed, Zamalek’s director of football, decided to impose a substantial financial punishment on the player because of his actions after he scored.
Mensy apologised to the coaching staff, led by Moataz Gamal, as well as Abdel Nasser Mohamed and his team-mates while the players were having dinner after the game.
The striker accepted the punishment imposed by the club. He confirmed that in a video recorded immediately after the match, after being informed of the value of the fine.
Mensy also issued an apology on his personal Instagram account.
Zamalek will secure qualification for the group stage if they win or draw the second leg, which is scheduled to take place on 24 October.
