Zamalek reject offers for Juan Bezerra and deny promising Brazilian a move

Zamalek have ruled out discussing any offers for Brazilian winger Juan Bezerra during the current summer transfer window and denied claims that the player had been promised he could leave at the end of the season.

The Egyptian club issued a statement after Bezerra published a message to Zamalek supporters explaining what he described as the circumstances behind his current dispute with the administration.

Zamalek said: “The Zamalek board of directors announces that it is closing the door to any offers to sell Brazilian player Juan Bezerra during the current summer transfer window.”

The club added: “Zamalek has made its position clear and will not discuss any offers received for the player. Zamalek cannot be forced to sell, whether it concerns Bezerra or any other player, especially if the player is absent from training.”

The statement also rejected Bezerra’s suggestion that the club had agreed he would depart at the end of the campaign.

“Today’s statement from the player included comments about the club promising him that he would leave at the end of the season. This never happened from the club president or any member of the board, and the player should identify who made him this promise,” Zamalek said.

Reports have linked Shabab Al Ahli Dubai with an interest in signing the Brazilian winger.

Zamalek said it had formally instructed Bezerra to return to Cairo and immediately resume training, stressing that he remains under contract with the club for the next three seasons.

“To ensure that Zamalek’s rights are protected, the board has notified the player that he must return to Cairo and attend the team’s training sessions immediately, given that he is bound by an official contract with the club for the next three seasons,” the statement said.

“The club is taking all measures stipulated by the contract and the regulations governing the matter, including applying the club’s internal regulations to the player, while retaining all its rights.”

The dispute is understood to have involved Bezerra’s agent and Zamalek, with communication between the two sides stopping in recent days as the club approached the start of its preparations for the new season.

Bezerra is reported to have ignored calls from Zamalek officials for a week because of a disagreement over financial payments owed to his agent.

The issue began after Zamalek completed payment of all money due to the player, as well as the sums owed to his former club. Bezerra’s agent then requested the commission he was due following the completion of the transfer.

Zamalek subsequently began communicating with the agent in an attempt to settle the outstanding payment and bring the dispute to a final conclusion.

At the same time, the club’s board formally informed Bezerra of the date on which preparations for the new season would begin, asking him to report for team training.

Bezerra has made 44 appearances for Zamalek in all competitions, scoring eight goals and providing 12 assists.

He helped Zamalek win the Egyptian Premier League last season, contributing two goals and three assists during the league campaign.
