Zamalek fans send a direct plea to Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi to save the club
In a desperate and emotional campaign, Zamalek fans have taken to social media, flooding “X” with #SaveZamalekPresident, crying out for help from Egypt’s leader Abdel Fattah el-Sisi as their beloved club faces the deepest crisis in its history.
Disillusioned by the board’s actions and mired in a severe financial and administrative mess, thousands bypassed traditional channels and reached out directly to the country’s highest authority.
The crisis is not simply about football anymore, it has become a public issue, affecting Egyptians nationwide. Pressure mounted after reports emerged the Ministry of Housing planned to revoke the site for Zamalek’s long-awaited October branch, a vital project fans called “the last lifeline” for their club’s future.
Former star Mahmoud Shikabala openly declared, “Zamalek is a pillar of Egypt’s soft power,” urging urgent national support. Board member Hesham Nasr described the situation as “beyond any board or individual,” citing mounting debts and the loss of Ministry support. “Council members paid from their own pockets, but the crisis is far bigger than any personal efforts,” Nasr said.
The club postponed foreign trips and sports events, including the African handball championship, unable to cover costs. With this comprehensive meltdown, fans insist only rapid, exceptional intervention can save Zamalek’s sporting and social legacy, calling the current turmoil a true existential test.
