Zamalek crowned Egyptian League champions for the 15th time
Zamalek SC were officially crowned Egyptian Premier League champions for the 15th time in their history after securing a tense 1-0 victory over Ceramica Cleopatra FC on the final day of the season.
The decisive goal came as early as the eighth minute through Palestinian striker Oday Dabbagh, who produced a brilliant solo effort after stealing possession from veteran defender Saad Samir before driving into the box and calmly finishing past the goalkeeper.
Zamalek Finish Above Pyramids and Al Ahly
The victory lifted Zamalek to 56 points, allowing them to finish two points ahead of Pyramids FC in second place.
Al Ahly SC ended the campaign in third with 53 points, while Ceramica Cleopatra finished fourth with 44 points.
The title victory completed a remarkable season for Zamalek, who overcame enormous challenges both on and off the pitch to emerge champions against strong competition.
Title Won Despite Major Financial Problems
Zamalek’s triumph is being viewed as one of the club’s most remarkable league successes considering the difficult circumstances surrounding the team throughout the season.
The club dealt with registration bans, financial struggles, unpaid salaries, and the departure of several players due to unpaid dues. Zamalek also sold key players Nasser Maher and Dunga during the winter transfer window to help settle salary obligations within the squad.
Despite those setbacks, the White Knights managed to outperform rivals packed with star players and held their nerve in a fiercely contested title race that went down to the final round.
Pyramids and Al Ahly Secure Continental Qualification
In another key fixture, Pyramids defeated Smouha SC 2-1 to secure second place and qualification for next season’s CAF Champions League.
Mahmoud Abdel Hafeez opened the scoring before Nasser Maher added a second from the penalty spot, while Hisham Balha netted for Smouha.
Meanwhile, Al Ahly defeated Al Masry SC 2-0 thanks to a brace from Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet, but the result was not enough to keep them in the title race.
The Cairo giants will now compete in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup after finishing third in the league standings.
