Yvon Mvogo’s outstanding form helps make Lorient Ligue 1’s best defence

Yvon Mvogo has made an impressive start to the Ligue 1 season, helping FC Lorient establish themselves as one of the most difficult teams to score against.

The Switzerland international, who is of Cameroonian origin, has gone more than 300 minutes without conceding a goal. His run of clean sheets has been central to Lorient’s defensive record, with the club having allowed just six goals so far.

That total is the joint-best in Ligue 1, with Lorient sharing the distinction with LOSC.

Statistics reported by L’Equipe show Mvogo has made 81.3% of his attempted saves this season. Only Berke Ozer has a better figure, with the Turkish goalkeeper recording an 82.8% save rate.

Mvogo’s experience, reflexes and consistency have made him a key part of the Lorient team. The 32-year-old goalkeeper, who was born in Yaounde, will now look to maintain that level as the season progresses and help the Merlus preserve their defensive strength.

Mvogo’s current contract with FC Lorient runs until 30 June 2027. His estimated market value is €2.5m.

FC Lorient’s next Ligue 1 fixture will come in the ninth round of the French championship, when they face Stade Brestois.
