Lassine Sinayoko matches George Weah’s Ligue 1 landmark with Paris FC

Lassine Sinayoko has become the first African player since George Weah to score eight goals in the opening nine games of a Ligue 1 season.

The Paris FC forward reached the milestone with a brace against AS Monaco, taking his league tally to eight goals and moving to the top of the Ligue 1 scoring charts.

The 26-year-old Mali international has made a strong start to the campaign, scoring in each of the first nine rounds of the French top flight. According to L’Equipe, his achievement is the first of its kind by an African footballer since Liberia great Weah managed the same feat during the 1991-92 season.

More than three decades after Weah set that benchmark, Sinayoko has followed in the former striker’s footsteps with a series of consistent performances in front of goal.

The former AJ Auxerre player has appeared in nine Ligue 1 matches, contributing eight goals and five assists. His form has established him as an important part of the Paris FC side and increasingly drawn attention to his performances.

Sinayoko is valued at 15 million euros and is under contract with Paris FC until 30 June 2029.

Paris FC’s next Ligue 1 fixture is against AJ Auxerre in the 10th round of the French championship.
